If able, make provision for your funeral, especially if you have a young family. That could help lighten the burden on your family. If able, pay for your funeral and inform a confidant/s as necessary. Funerals come at a cost.

142. Is it easy to get divorced?

This depends on different factors. For example, in Islamic practice, the husband only needs to pronounce his divorce wish three times. In the United Kingdom, the process is very straightforward. In Nigeria, I guess that with the intervention of concerned parties and stakeholders, the process may be elongated or more proactively managed. In the Christian faith, I believe the marital vows are ‘till death do us part,’ but this has severally not been put into practice. I even know of a Pastor who divorced his wife.  In Islam, if the marriage does not work, or in the case of infertility these  could be grounds for divorce.

143. Are there consequences for divorce?

  • Cracks in societal values
  • Negative impact on spouses
  • Negative impact on children
  • Negative impact on relatives
  • Alternative opportunities
  • Health implications such as depression
  • Possible suicide
  • Etc

145. Is a domineering spouse beneficial?

Personally, I do not like to be dominated. I prefer persuasion and to be carried along. Undue dominance puts me off. On the other hand some spouses may not mind. Some may have different ways of managing dominance. It is an individual judgement call. If dominance works for you and your spouse, please play along.

147. What are the impacts of divorce?

Divorce can impact the children negatively. It can indirectly impact society negatively. The spouses are bruised from the process. There could be disaffection between concerned parties. Immediate and extended relatives may have estranged relationships. The personalities and education of the children may be impacted. Long term relationships may be negatively impacted etc.

148. Marital Expenses

149. Is raising a family expensive?

There are associated costs to raising a family. Food, clothing, shelter, education, transportation, domestic costs, entertainment, socialization, spirituality, health, living expenses, miscellaneous, furniture, repairs, emergencies, etc. Some of these expenses are planned while others come as emergencies.  I leave it to you to quantify and compute, over a month, year or lifetime and tell if it is expensive or not.
