 110. DO YOU DELIVER RESULTS OR EXCUSES?

It is simple to get into the habit of making excuses when faced with difficulties or when deadlines are missed in an academic setting. However, more than their skills, the way successful students handle responsibility frequently distinguishes them from failing ones. In the workplace, results are more important than justifications, so cultivating a result-oriented mindset while in college might help you stand out.

It is critical to recognise the clear distinction between excuses and explanations. Even when there are valid difficulties like illness, family problems, or technical difficulties, how you respond to these circumstances is more important than the difficulties themselves. Having backup plans, being proactive in communicating, and accepting accountability for results are behaviours that set result-delivers apart from those who make excuses.

What are your thoughts?

Now is the time to establish professional habits. Consistently meet deadlines, be clear in your communication when problems occur, and concentrate on finding solutions rather than problems. When you encounter difficulties, ask yourself, “What can I do to deliver results despite these challenges?” This change in perspective from “why I cannot” to “how I can” is beneficial in both professional and academic contexts.

Keep in mind that your time in college is preparing you for your future career. Instead of those who are good at justifying why something couldn’t be done, employers look for people who can be relied upon to deliver outcomes. Develop a reputation for figuring out how to accomplish goals, rather than coming up with excuses for why they cannot be accomplished.

And bear in mind, that your failure to deliver, may negatively impact the larger business goal.
