116. ARE RULES MADE TO BE FOLLOWED?
Rules can feel constrictive, particularly when you are trying to become independent in college. However, regulations are in place for a purpose: they provide order, guarantee justice, and establish structure. You can handle them more skilfully if you know why they exist.
Academic regulations such as attendance policies and submission deadlines may appear inconvenient. Nonetheless, they teach you time management and discipline, which are important abilities for success in any industry. While adhering to rules in group projects guarantees equity, meeting deadlines demonstrates respect for your work and other people’s time.
Socially, campus regulations support the upkeep of a secure and welcoming atmosphere. The goal of rules and policies pertaining to harassment, drug usage, and noise levels is to safeguard everyone’s wellbeing, not only to maintain order. By following these guidelines, you help create a community in which everyone can prosper.
Nevertheless, it is crucial to challenge rules that seem unjust or antiquated. Critical thinking is encouraged at college, and questioning accepted wisdom can result in constructive change. Approach a rule politely if it seems irrational; participate in conversations, raise your concerns, or join student organisations that are pushing for reform.
In the end, regulations are not meant to be blindly followed. They serve as rules to guide you while you develop. When they have a clear aim, follow them, but do not be afraid to ask intelligent questions. Making the most of your college experience requires striking a balance between autonomous thought and obedience to the rules.
