 63. FEEDBACK

In college, feedback is essential for both academic and personal development, but many students find it difficult to accept and use it. Your learning and professional development can be significantly accelerated by knowing how to receive, evaluate, and act upon feedback. This vital ability influences your capacity to adjust and develop in your future profession, going well beyond simply raising your grades.

Giving Great Feedback

The first step in taking criticism is to approach it with an open mind. Every comment you receive, whether from peers, teachers, or teaching assistants, provides insightful analysis of your work. Spend some time carefully reading and considering the comments, searching for trends and areas that require constant improvement. Have a personal feedback notebook to record your progress and keep track of reoccurring traits.

Constructive Feedback?

Asking for feedback proactively shows maturity and a desire to improve. Avoid waiting for official tests by contacting your teachers during office hours, joining study groups that encourage peer review, and sharing your work with mentors whenever you can. By taking these proactive measures, you can create a thorough awareness of your areas of strength and growth.

A methodical strategy is necessary for the efficient implementation of feedback. Prioritise areas for improvement, break down recommendations into manageable steps, and establish clear goals for your upcoming task or project. To direct your future work, think about developing a personal rubric based on the criticism you’ve received. Keep in mind that progress is slow, and acknowledge each little step as it happens.

Understanding Feedback

The capacity to provide constructive criticism is just as crucial. Practise giving your classmates precise, well-considered feedback during class discussions and group tasks. In addition to improving your analytical abilities, this two-way process gets you ready for leadership positions in the future where providing and receiving feedback will be essential.
