 75. MOTIVATION FOR SUCCESS

Motivation is something you generate rather than something you wait for. Long-term motivation originates internally, even when external considerations like grades and future employment predictions are important. Maintaining momentum throughout your college career requires an understanding of and commitment to developing your inner drive.

Jack’s Mindset

Start by establishing exciting, well-defined goals. Instead of merely wanting to “do well” in your classes, set goals for yourself, such as becoming very proficient in your profession, understanding difficult topics, or making a significant contribution to class debates. Divide these predominant goals into weekly and daily targets to help you stay motivated and focused.

Jack Lookman’s Paperbacks

Establish a setting that will help you stay motivated. Be in the company of driven peers who push you to succeed. Create a study area that enhances productivity and reduces distractions. Use charts, notebooks, or apps to visually record your progress. Observing your progress, even in tiny steps, motivates you to keep working hard.

Create routines that help you stay on track. Review your goals, first thing in the morning. Plan your hardest tasks for when you have the most energy. To avoid burnout, take regular breaks. Keep in mind that motivation frequently comes after action; sometimes you must begin working even when you are not feeling very motivated.

Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how minor. Every task finished, idea understood, or fruitful study wins, count towards your overall goal. Tell your mentor about your accomplishments, and use them as motivation to take on your next task.
