84. ARE YOUR EATING HABITS OF IMPORTANCE?
Your energy levels, general well-being, and academic achievement are all directly impacted by your eating habits. Your dietary choices are investments in your mental and physical well-being, even while the flexibility of college life may entice you to subsist on coffee and convenience meals. According to research, eating well can enhance mental clarity, memory, and focus—all of which are critical for academic achievement.
Set up regular mealtimes that accommodate your schedule. Missing meals, particularly breakfast, can affect your capacity to focus and learn. Arrange your meals to coincide with your out of class periods; for in-between-class energy boosts, pack wholesome snacks like granola bars, nuts, or fruits. Carry a water bottle with you and fill it up throughout the day to stay hydrated. Even minor dehydration can impair energy and cognitive function.
Learn to prepare affordable, wholesome, and easy meals. Begin with simple meals that call for few ingredients and little time to prepare. Weekend meal preparation ensures you have nutritious options while saving time and money. Make an effort to include vegetables, whole grains, and proteins in your meals. Be mindful of serving portions, eating the ‘right quantities,’ and make an effort to eat a range of meals. Think about how much caffeine you consume; although it may improve focus, too much of it can cause anxiety, insomnia, and energy slumps.
Keep in mind that eating habits are social and emotional, in addition to being nutritional. Be careful of utilising food as a stress response, learn to cook together, and share meals with others. You can cultivate a positive relationship with food by paying attention to your body’s signals of hunger and fullness. Spend time creating a sustainable, healthful diet strategy because your eating habits throughout college can create lifelong habits.
