138. ARE INTERPERSONAL SKILLS OF ANY BENEFIT?
Interpersonal skills are now just as important in today’s society as academic knowledge. Your success in the workplace is frequently determined by your ability to collaborate with others, even though technical proficiency may help you get through college. These abilities impact everything from networking opportunities to group projects; and their significance only increases in a more team-oriented workplace.
Effective communication, dispute resolution, and the development of deep relationships with teachers and classmates, are all made possible by having strong interpersonal skills. They support you in understanding other viewpoints, communicating your thoughts coherently, and navigating group dynamics. These skills are especially important in the collaborative learning settings that are prevalent in contemporary education. Being able to connect across cultural borders and operate well in different teams, has become crucial in today’s globalised world.
There are lots of possibilities at universities to hone these abilities. Engage in group projects, join student organisations, and contribute to class debates. Every encounter is an opportunity to enhance your communication, leadership, and emotional intelligence. Benefit from your university’s workshops, seminars, and other initiatives that concentrate on enhancing these important soft skills.
Think about recording your interactions with others, and the outcomes, in a journal or log. Consider what is effective and what requires development. Ask mentors and peers for input on your collaborative skills and communication style. Your interpersonal efficiency can be continuously enhanced by this self-awareness and growth-oriented attitude.
