159. DO YOU REFLECT ON THE LIVES OF OTHERS?
In a college setting where individual accomplishments are frequently the main focus, taking the time to consider the lives of others can be a life-changing activity. It is easy to become preoccupied with your own problems, but making the effort to learn about the hardships and victories of others, broadens your horizons and develops empathy.
Submission, Gratitude, Faith and Hope
You can learn things from other people’s life that you may not learn from books or lectures. Each of your classmates has a distinct story of tenacity and achievement, and they come from a variety of backgrounds. For instance, being inspired to be thankful for your own resources and chances can come from learning about a classmate’s journey of overcoming financial difficulties or cultural restrictions.
Making meaningful connections is another benefit of reflecting on other people’s lives. Gaining insight into their pleasures and challenges makes you more sympathetic, which is essential for collaboration. A university serves as a small-scale version of the outside world, and embracing diversity helps you live in a more accepting society.
This practice is not limited to academic institutions. You can learn about grit, flexibility, and kindness by observing the perseverance of local vendors, the commitment of a professor, or the fortitude of university employees. It is not about comparison; rather, it is about valuing other people’s efforts and abilities and using those lessons in your own life.
You can develop empathy and understanding—qualities necessary for both professional and personal development—by thinking about other people. Thus, set aside time to hear the tales of your community, mentors, and peers. Their experiences have the capacity to change your viewpoint and extend your knowledge of the world.
You might also reflect, on those outside university; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Those who-have, and those without. Most of those journeys, have life lessons. Life is indeed one big road with lots of signs. It’s for us to observe them and optimise them.
