205. IS DISCIPLINE AN OVERRATED VALUE?
Discipline may seem like an old concept in a society that frequently extols inborn skill and quick achievement. Nonetheless, this fundamental characteristic continues to be one of the best indicators of long-term achievement and personal satisfaction. Given the growing number of diversions and conflicting demands on our time, discipline is more important now than it has ever been.
Discipline can take many different forms, ranging from sticking to a regular study and exercise schedule, to handling money and keeping your word. Every disciplined action improves your capacity to restrain impulses, postpone gratification, and stay focused on long-term objectives.
You build mental routines that facilitate discipline in the future, each time you choose to take disciplined action over instant gratification. Discipline becomes more natural the more you practise it, which produces a positive feedback loop. On the other hand, every time you give in to unruly conduct, you strengthen the patterns that make self-control harder in the future.
Discipline frequently separates mediocre executors from outstanding ones in professional settings. Although intelligence and talent are valuable, discipline guarantees that these traits be applied consistently. It is the energy that motivates you to start working early, maintains your concentration on difficult tasks, and advances your career even in the absence of obvious benefits. Because disciplined workers are dependable, consistent, and able to maintain high performance over time, employers reward them generously.
Above all, discipline gives you a sense of control and personal strength. Discipline is something we can actively develop and uphold in a world when many things are out of our control. It serves as a link between potential and attainment, as well as between goals and accomplishment.
Discipline could quite rightly be considered an evergreen value.
