36. ARE YOU FOCUSED ON PERFECTION OR PROGRESS? Becoming Organised - Jack’s Empowerment and Inspiration - Jack Lookman - Ola Carew

 36. ARE YOU FOCUSED ON PERFECTION OR PROGRESS?

Perfectionism can appear to be a positive trait, since it encourages you to set high goals and perform well.  However, perfectionism frequently causes procrastination, frustration, and self-doubt.  Many people put off starting projects for fear of making mistakes or not getting things precisely right. Instead of moving forward, they get mired in a loop of overthinking and reluctance.  True organisation and achievement, stem from focussing on steady progress rather than waiting for perfection.

One of the most significant disadvantages of perfectionism is the fear of failure.  Many people avoid starting initiatives or making decisions, because they are concerned about not doing things precisely.  This causes unnecessary delays and missed opportunities.  Instead of striving for perfection, focus on making consistent progress.  The secret to success is to start, learn, and improve as you go.  Making any progress is preferable to remaining stuck.

Jack’s Empowerment

Setting realistic expectations can help you overcome your perfectionism.  It is necessary to strive for greatness, but expecting perfection in every situation would just slow you down.  Accept that mistakes and failures are a natural part of the learning process.  Instead of stressing about minor issues, concentrate on finishing jobs quickly, and improving them over time.  Allow yourself to move forward, without the strain of being perfect.

Jack’s Mindset

Prioritising progress above perfection, allows you to remain productive, motivated, and organised.  When you focus on doing your best rather than waiting for the “perfect” moment, you accomplish more and experience less stress.  Whether it is finishing work, organising your home, or managing your time, constant effort yields greater outcomes than continual overthinking.

35. DO YOU ALWAYS PLAN AHEAD OR RUSH AT THE LAST MINUTE? Becoming Organised - Jack’s Empowerment and Inspiration - Jack Lookman

 35. DO YOU ALWAYS PLAN AHEAD OR RUSH AT THE LAST MINUTE?

Many people are continually rushing at the last minute to finish chores, fulfil deadlines, or plan activities.  This pattern of last-minute rushing frequently results in stress, errors, and low-quality work.  On the other hand, planning ahead of time allows you to maintain control, finish activities more efficiently, and relieve unnecessary stress.  If you’re constantly in a rush, it is time to reconsider your approach to planning and organisation.

Underestimating how long things would take, is one of the most common reasons for planning delays.  Many people believe they can complete a task fast, only to discover later that it involves more time and effort than anticipated.  To avoid this, begin evaluating the time required for each work realistically. If you believe a task will take an hour, allow an extra 15-30 minutes as a buffer.  This way, even if unexpected problems emerge, you will not become overwhelmed or fall behind schedule.

Effective planning also entails dividing down activities into smaller sections, and establishing deadlines in advance.  Instead of waiting until the day before a project is due, split it into smaller sections and apply deadlines to each one.  For example, if you have a report due in two weeks, set aside time to research, draft, and review it over multiple days.  This technique provides consistent progress while avoiding the stress of last-minute rushes.

Planning ahead is about more than just completing chores on time; it is also about minimising stress and increasing the quality of your work.  When you plan, you allow yourself time to consider, rewrite, and deal with unanticipated delays without stress.  Life will always surprise you, but by planning your duties ahead of time, you may manage problems with ease.

Like is often said, “if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.”
