 18. DECLUTTERING YOUR HOME

A crowded home can add chaos and worry to day-to-day living.  Overcrowding makes it difficult to discover what you need, concentrate on critical activities, or even unwind.  Your energy can be depleted by clutter, which often makes your house feel overwhelming instead of cosy.  Creating a space that enables you to think clearly, move freely, and experience a sense of calm is more important than simply keeping your house tidy.

Declutter one space at a time to begin.  It can seem overwhelming to organise your entire house in a single day, so divide the work into manageable chunks.  Sort through the contents of a single room, wardrobe or even a drawer.  Sort them into the following categories: store, donate, discard, or keep.

After decluttering, come up with storage options that suit your needs.  There should be a specific locations for everything in your house.  To keep things organised, use drawer organisers, storage bins, labels, and shelves.  Finding products when you need them is made easier by labelling containers and putting related items in one category.  To make the most of your available space if you live in a compact location, think about utilising under-bed storage, multipurpose furniture, or vertical storage.

Adopt easy daily routines to keep your home organised.  Spend a few minutes every day putting things back where they belong.  Wash dishes after meals, make your bed in the morning, and tidy up a little before bed.  Little, regular efforts keep clutter from piling up again.  In addition to feeling better, a clutter-free house transforms your living area from a stressful and frustrating place to one of peace and relaxation.

An additional tip that may compliment your efforts, is to put on a headphone or earphone, and listen to beneficial content while carrying out your de-cluttering. This helps make your efforts less of a chore. It also helps you multi-task, by consuming the content while doing the tidy-up.
