29. ARE YOU CONTROLLING YOUR TIME OR LETTING IT CONTROL YOU?
Despite being one of our most precious resources, many people find it difficult to successfully manage their time. Some people are often hurrying through chores, missing deadlines, or feeling overburdened, because they feel like they never have enough time. Others waste their time on pointless pursuits and diversions, leaving them with little to show for their labours. The true question is whether you are in charge of your time or it is in charge of you.
Knowing where your time is going is one of the first steps to managing it. A lot of individuals don’t realise how much time they waste on pointless things like social media, TV viewing, gossipping, and pointless chores. A week of daily activity tracking is an easy approach to assess this. Write down everything you do and how long it takes. This will highlight trends of lost time and help you find areas for improvement. You can begin making deliberate changes once you are aware of where your time is going.
Setting priorities is essential for efficient time management. Not all tasks are equally important, and treating them as if they are, will only lead to stress and inefficiency. Another crucial part of time management is setting boundaries and forming routines. Your day will be overtaken by interruptions and diversions if you don’t set clear boundaries. Establish clear work schedules, schedule breaks, and develop the ability to decline activities that conflict with your goals.
A well-organised schedule helps you stay focused, minimises decision fatigue, and increases productivity throughout the day. Utilising your time effectively to build a balanced, orderly, and satisfying life, is the goal of time management, not cramming every minute with activities.
